The Hand-over Ceremony of the Grant Assistance Project for the Establishment of River Facilities in Rural Area in Sarawak

The Government of Japan extended grant assistance totaling RM82,879 to the Project for the Establishment of River Facilities in Rural Area in Sarawak (hereinafter referred to as ”The Project”), in March 2010. The grant was used for establishing the river facilities and pedestrian bridge in Kg. Senah Rayang in Kuching Division which is located close to the border with Indonesia, in order to improve the living conditions of the people in the village. The Project was implemented by Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB).
The Project has been completed recently, and handed over in Kg. Senah Rayang on January 29, 2011, in the presence of Mr. Kazuyoshi YAMAGUCHI, Consul-General of Japan in Kota Kinabalu (山口 一義 総領事). Also present were Chairman of Sarawak Rivers Board YB Encik Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
In his speech, Mr. Yamaguchi said, “This is funded by the taxpayers of Japan as the small token of goodwill of Japanese people toward the people of Sarawak, the people of Kg. Senah Rayang. I hope that this project will make a great contribution to the betterment of living conditions for the people of Kg. Senah Rayang and the project will be remembered by villagers as a symbol of friendship between Japan and Sarawak and Kg. Senah Rayang.”
Since 1989, under the GGP, the Government of Japan has extended financial assistance in Sarawak and Sabah with 37 small but socially and economically important projects amounting to approximately RM 5.0 million in total. The Government of Japan is always responsive to the good proposals from NGOs and other nonprofit associations to carry out the projects under the GGP.
