Important notice to Consular Section Visitors (Reservation is required from 15 April until MCO is lifted)

In response to the extension of the Movement Control Order (MCO) announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 10 April, the following changes will be implemented to Consular Services from 15 April 2020 until the Movement Control Order is lifted.
It is regrettable that any inconvenience may occur and we seek your kind understanding during this difficult times.
Please note that the following changes might be extended depending on Malaysian Government decision on the period of Movement Control Order.
1. Consular services operating hours (15 April until MCO is lifted)
Please make a reservation in advance via phone or email and come at the scheduled date and time.
*Time slot available for reservation: 09:30 to 12:00
If you need to cross the state or travel more than 10 km to visit the Japanese Embassy, consult your local police office and receive advice.
2. Consular services we provide
In principle, we will only accept urgent application and registration.
【Example】
(1) Your passport expires during the Movement Control Order (MCO)
(2) You lost your passport and you need to obtain a travel document to return to Japan
(3) Your child was born, you must register your child’s birth within 3 months
The above are just some examples, but if there are any other circumstances, please consult us in advance. For other application and registration which are not urgent, you are advised to apply after the Movement Control Order has been lifted.
3. How to make a reservation
You can make a reservation via phone or email by informing us your name, date, time and purpose of visit.

4. Working Days required for Issuance of Passport and Certificate
3 working days (Example: Apply on Monday → Collect on Wednesday)
5. Application and Issuance of Visa
For non-urgent applications, you are advised to apply after the Movement Control Order has been lifted.
In accordance with Japan government latest border enforcement measures : 1) temporarily suspend visa exemption for Malaysian and 2) temporary entry ban on those who are traveling to Japan from Malaysia, all visa application (Malaysian and non-Malaysian nationals) submitted to Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu will only be processed after the border enforcement measures has been lifted.

6. Inquiry through phone
There is no changes in Consular Services (Passport, Certificate, Visa and etc.) telephone inquiry.
