The Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu set up a booth introducing traditional Japanese culture at “Otakyun! 2025”

    “Otakyun! 2025”, which is one of the largest Anime, Comics & Games (ACG) events in East Malaysia, was held at Theatre Hotel in Kuching, Sarawak. 
     About 5,000 anime enthusiasts, cosplayers, gamers, artists, and pop culture followers from all across Malaysia and neighbouring countries attended the popular two-day event. At the venue, total more than 50 booths were set up for displaying and selling ACG-related goods, besides which special programs such as a cosplay and an idol performance contest were arranged for the stage.

     The Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu also set up a booth introducing traditional Japanese culture such as origami (paper folding), calligraphy (shodo), traditional wooden toys, Yukata and Happi (traditional Japanese garments) for free. The visitors were given the lecture on how to fold a paper and write characters with a Fude (brush) and Sumi (black ink) and could also play traditional toys or try on Yukata and Happi. At the booth, the information on tourism, studying at the universities in Japan and learning Japanese was also provided to the visitors. Some visitors said that they would like to learn more about Japan and Japanese.

     The Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu will continue to promote Japanese culture including sub-pop culture of Japan, in collaboration with related like-minded organisations in Malaysia, which will also facilitate cultural exchange between Malaysia and Japan.
