Sabah All Japanese Martial Arts and Culture Exhibition 2023 (Event Report)

On 28th October, the Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu, together with co-organizer Sabah Aikido Association held the “Sabah All Japanese Sabah Martial Arts and Culture Exhibition 2023” at the Kota Kinabalu Community Hall (Dewan Masyarakat Kota Kinabalu). Mr. YAMASHITA Yoshito, who assumed the post of Head of Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu on 27th October, and Sensei Kenny Teng, President of Sabah Aikido Association, both gave speeches at the opening ceremony to thank everyone for attending this event. Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip, Mayor of Dewan Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, also said congratulatory words on the celebration of friendship between Kota Kinabalu and Japan.
This event was participated by Sabah Aikido Association, which is active in Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu Kendo Association, Shotokan Karate Association of Sabah; joined by Malaysia Aikido Association and MAKOTO Singapore, an Aikido organization based in Singapore; all of whom demonstrated the results of their daily training. The booths introducing traditional Japanese culture, such as shodo (calligraphy), origami, karuta (card game), and sado (tea ceremony) were also very popular among the 200 visitors who came that day. Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip, Mayor of Kota Kinabalu and Puan Noredah Othman, Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Tourism Board, were invited to experience origami and sado (tea ceremony) at the respective booths. Coupled with the perfected performance of each martial arts group, the event was a very lively one.
