The Signing of the Grant Contract regarding Grassroots Grant Assistance Project for FY 2024 for purchasing a vehicle for children’s home in Papar
○ Date: 21st November 2024 (Thursday)
○ Venue: Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu
The Government of Japan has extended Grant Assistance to Caring For The Future (Malaysia) Berhad through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects to purchase a transport vehicle for a children’s home in Papar, Sabah. The Grant Contract was signed by Mr. YAMASHITA Yoshito, Head of Consular Office of Japan in Kota Kinabalu and Mr. Abe Mitsuhiko, Managing Director of CFF Malaysia.
CFF Malaysia is located in Papar, a town with a diverse ethnic population, mainly Dusun, Kadazan, Malay, Bajau, etc. Since its establishment in 2008, CFF has been working to gain the understanding of the local community for the operation of the Children home, and overcoming various difficulties to build a life support system that enables children in need to live regular lives and receive education. More recently, CFF has been involved in a project to dig wells with Japanese students and make the water available to the local community.
CFF is a very self-sustaining organization, with most of its operating costs coming from participation fees paid by students from Japanese universities to experience various activities on their premises.
Besides the income from the work camp program (100-150 students per year), they also offer internship programs for Japanese and Malaysian students.
The program is tailored to the needs of the students, including child welfare, youth development, and Environmentally Friendly Farming. We have heard that this program is one of the important sources of income along with work camps and income from product sales, etc., in terms of operating an economically independent facility.
In order for the children currently residing at the facility to be able to play an active role in the future of Sabah, CFF is also committed to learning sustainable farming techniques, such as pesticide-free vegetable, fruit, livestock (pig, chicken, goat, and fish farming), rainwater reuse, solar panel power generation, and composting from food scraps on the property.
CFF has lived a very thrifty and modest life, but the vehicle used to safely transport the children to and from school had become so worn out over time that it could no longer operate properly, and combined with the loss of revenue due to Covid-19, they were unable to afford a new
vehicle.
Through this grant, CFF Malaysia will be provided with a school transportation vehicle, which will improve the safety and convenience of children's commute to school and securing educational opportunities for children.
